Masters A

Ffast tops the results again with Battle on the Border wins!

In the Elite Mens A, Steven George managed to etch out a 27.3 second advantage after the four stages. He didn't have it all his own way though, he gave away 55 seconds in the Stage 1 time trial, gaining much of that back winning the Stage 2 road race. Another big scare in the third stage saw an big attack from Deon Locke, but it wasn't enough  for the crit - Steven George taking second place and the overall GC.

It was another men's event on top of the dias, the hard Russian  Nikolai Razouvaev back in the news again winning the Masters A division. It was first places for the time trial and the first road stage making him impossible to catch, taking out the GC by almost a minute.

Race Results from ANZAC Weekend

Wednesday, April 29, 2009 9:12:32 PM

The Russian! Nikolai Razouvaev
wins the ANZAC 25

After a minute's silence, the Elite Men at Lakeside set off in the ANZAC 25. The men didn't mess about setting the fastest lap of the day on Lap 2, in a touch over 3 minutes, around the challenging Lakeside course. The course is unique, originally built for motorsport, it is smooth, wide, has ripple strips and tyre barriers, although none were needed on Saturday. The course starts with a gradually rising false flat, into an uphill 180 degree turn, down again through a few flowing turns before turning up into a fair pinch to test the riders. Once over the hill, riders get to briefly enjoy a fast flowing downhill turn, only to be met by the headwind down the main straight.

With good prize money and trophy on the line, there was a fair field of elites on the start line. There were 4 primes to keep the crowd entertained and a number of breakaway attempts had a crack but were all brought back to the field. When the pace really came on though, the hills and the headwind began to take their toll and the pack was split, the lead pack of about 6 trying to stay away. With 3 laps to go, the lead pack was caught by a smaller chase pack, the chasers dropped a couple of the original breakaways. Down to the line it was a sprint, won by FFast's Nikolai Razouvaev!

Andrew Gerber wins the Masters A
QLD Criterium Championship

In Women B, Jane Walker (FFast) got the Silver, Dianne McAuliffe, the Bronze (FFast) and Shanice Nitis 4th. Masters C Men, Brian O'Connell got 4th, with Ffast members picking up two more Bronzes in Masters B, Michael Walker and Masters A Men, Ned Draydon.

Ffast picked up another 1st in the Womens A with Lorian Graham taking out the event, Patricia Palmer (Ffast) grabbed Bronze.

On Sunday, the Qld Criterium State Championships were held at Nundah. Ffast continued the winning ways with Linda White first over the line Womens Masters 4. Jane Walker got her second Silver of the weekend in the Womens Masters 2. The Masters Men went home with another Gold medal, this time around the neck of Andrew Gerber. And a final Bronze medal in the Under 23 Men going to Benjamin Fleming in the bunch sprint.

Weekend Racing Preview

Thursday, April 23, 2009 3:27:18 AM

There should be some great racing this weekend in S.E. Queensland with two major events. Hamilton Pine River Wheelers are hosting the ANZAC 25 at Lakeside on Saturday and Cycling Queensland have the State Crit Champs on at Nundah on Sunday. The weather forecast is predicting "fine" with the temperature in the high 20's, so be sure to come out and check out all the action if you aren't racing. There are plenty of Ffast members in both events!

Good luck to all racers!
